Privacy Policy
1. Who We Are
GeoPin ("the game", "we", "us") is developed by SDSparkle. You can reach us at hello@sdsparkle.com.
2. Information We Collect
a) Playing as a Guest (no account required)
If you play without creating an account, we collect no personal information. Your scores, coin balance, cosmetic unlocks, and settings are stored entirely in your browser's localStorage and never transmitted to our servers.
b) Creating an Account
If you choose to create an account to save scores to the leaderboard, we collect:
- Email address — used only for authentication (sign-in and password recovery). We do not send marketing emails.
- Password — stored as a secure hash by our auth provider. We never see your plain-text password.
- Username — a display name you choose, shown on the leaderboard.
- Game scores — score, game mode, category, difficulty, and timestamp when you choose to submit a score.
c) Automatically Collected Data
Our hosting provider (Netlify) and backend provider (Supabase) may collect standard server logs including IP addresses and browser user-agent strings for security and abuse prevention. We do not use this data for analytics or advertising.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate you when you sign in
- To display your scores on the public leaderboard (username + score only)
- To allow you to recover your account via email
- To prevent abuse of the leaderboard
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties.
4. Data Storage & Third-Party Services
Account data (email, username, scores) is stored with Supabase (privacy policy), hosted on secure cloud infrastructure. The game itself is hosted on Netlify (privacy policy).
The 3D globe uses textures from the three.js CDN. No personal data is sent to three.js servers.
5. Local Storage
GeoPin stores the following data in your browser's localStorage (on your device only):
- GeoCoins balance
- Unlocked and equipped cosmetics (pins, skyboxes)
- Personal high scores (per category)
- Power-up charges
- Preferred sky theme
- Whether you've seen the first-play tutorial
This data never leaves your device and is not linked to your account. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for geopin.co.
6. Children's Privacy
GeoPin is intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please play as a guest (no account required). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at hello@sdsparkle.com and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your Rights
You may at any time:
- Delete your account — email us at hello@sdsparkle.com and we'll remove all your data within 30 days.
- Request your data — email us and we'll provide a copy of everything we hold.
- Change your username — contact us and we'll update it.
Residents of the EU/EEA have additional rights under GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, portability, restriction). Contact us to exercise these rights.
8. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Scores remain on the leaderboard until you request deletion. If you have not signed in for 2 years, we may delete inactive accounts.
9. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS, hashed passwords, and row-level security on our database. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy occasionally. If we make significant changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of GeoPin after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
