Terms of Service

    Short version: Play fair, don't cheat, don't abuse the service. GeoPin is free to play. Virtual items (GeoCoins, cosmetics) have no real-world cash value.
  

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or playing GeoPin (available at geopin.co or through mobile app stores), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use GeoPin. GeoPin is operated by SDSparkle ("we", "us", "our").

2. Eligibility

GeoPin is intended for users of all ages. If you are under 13, you may play as a guest without creating an account. By creating an account, you represent that you are at least 13 years old, or that a parent or legal guardian has consented to your use of GeoPin.

3. Your Account

When you create an account, you are responsible for:

Keeping your password confidential
All activity that occurs under your account
Choosing a username that is not offensive, impersonating, or misleading

We reserve the right to terminate accounts with usernames that violate these terms or that we find objectionable, at our sole discretion.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Cheat, exploit bugs, or use bots, scripts, or automation to gain an unfair advantage
Attempt to manipulate the leaderboard through fraudulent means
Reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from GeoPin
Use GeoPin in any way that could damage, disable, or impair our servers or infrastructure
Harass, threaten, or impersonate other users
Use GeoPin for any unlawful purpose

We reserve the right to remove scores, suspend, or permanently ban accounts that violate these terms.

5. Virtual Currency & Items

GeoPin includes a virtual currency ("GeoCoins") and cosmetic items (pins, skyboxes). These are in-game items only:

GeoCoins and cosmetics have no real-world monetary value
They cannot be transferred, sold, or traded between accounts
They cannot be exchanged for real money
We may modify, adjust, or remove virtual items at any time

Any GeoCoins or cosmetics you earn are a limited, revocable license to use those in-game items while you have a valid account in good standing.

6. User Content

You can contribute three kinds of content: your username, your scores, and trivia questions you write and pin to a location on the globe.

Licence you grant us

By submitting content you grant SDSparkle a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable licence to use, store, reproduce, modify, publish and distribute it as part of GeoPin, including in future versions and on the website.

This licence has to be perpetual and irrevocable for a practical reason you should understand before submitting: approved questions are packaged inside the app. Once a version ships, copies are installed on other people's devices and cannot be recalled. We will remove your question from future updates on request, but we cannot remove it from versions already installed.

Rules for what you submit

You are solely responsible for what you submit, and you confirm you have the right to submit it. Usernames and questions must not:

be obscene, hateful, harassing, threatening, or sexually explicit
promote violence, self-harm, illegal activity, or discrimination
infringe anyone's copyright, trademark, or other rights — do not paste text from another quiz, book or website
contain personal information about yourself or anyone else, or anything private, defamatory or misleading
contain advertising, spam, links, or attempts to manipulate the game

Moderation

Every submitted question is reviewed by a human before it can appear in the game. We may accept, edit for accuracy or clarity, or reject any submission for any reason, and we may remove content that is already published. Rejection is not a judgement about you, and we are not obliged to explain a decision.

GeoCoins awarded for an approved question are virtual items under Section 5. They have no cash value, and submitting content does not make you an employee, contractor or partner, nor entitle you to payment, credit or attribution.

Reporting content

If you see a question or username in GeoPin that breaks these rules, email captain@geopin.co with the details. We review reports and remove content that violates these Terms.

7. Intellectual Property

GeoPin and all content within it — including but not limited to the globe graphics, UI design, trivia questions, sound, and GeoPin logo — are owned by SDSparkle and protected by copyright law. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from GeoPin content without our express written permission.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

GeoPin is provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the game will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of bugs. We make no guarantees about the accuracy of trivia content.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SDSparkle shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use GeoPin, including loss of scores, coins, or cosmetic progress.

10. Modifications to the Game and Terms

We may modify GeoPin — including features, scoring, virtual items, or availability — at any time without notice. We may also update these Terms; when we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of GeoPin after any changes constitutes acceptance.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to GeoPin at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. You may stop using GeoPin at any time; to delete your account, email us at captain@geopin.co.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
